From a single vineyard in the Wanaka district, this fabulous medium-style riesling is filled with lemon curd, lime zest, floral and nectarine characters with subtle flinty complexity. The palate offers excellent fruit purity and focus with elegant sweetness backed by mouth-watering acidity. Wonderful balance and harmony, and finishes superbly long and attractive. At its best: now to 2025.  95 Points  5 Stars

Bright, very pale straw colour with slight green hues, near colourless on the rim. This has an elegant and refined, penetrating nose of lime, lemon, tangerine and citrus blossom, expressed with clarity and purity. Nuances of mouthwatering minerals and toasty elements add refreshing detail.  Medium to medium-sweet to taste and light-bodied, the palate possesses very tightly bound flavours of an array of citrus fruits with exotic florals, honeysuckle and nuances of toast and minerals.  Fresh, brisk, mouthwatering acidity and very soft textures carry the wine to a very long, lingering finish. This is an elegant, medium-sweet Riesling with exotic citrus fruit and floral flavours and a soft, mouthwatering palate. Serve as an aperitif and with mildly spicy Asian fare over the next 5 years. Fruit from the Queensberry Hills, whole bunch foot-stomped and cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 8.9% alc. and 48 g/L RS, TA 8.6 g/L and pH 2.83. 18.5/20

Black Peak Central Otago NZ Riesling 2014

Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier.  30 May 2015

Aromatic and delicate as well with plenty of white peach, apple and citrus aromas with a persistent line of white flowers and cold stone mineral adding complexity and mystery. On the palate – off dry with noticeable sweetness balanced by plenty of acidity and filled with flavour. This is a style of Riesling done well with – mineral sherbet, mandarin, sweet peach tea, florals and a long lightly sweet finish. Delicious! 5 Stars

Aromatic Riesling in a medium style with floral, mineral and orange zest flavours. Very pretty wine with nice tension building between fine acidity and reasonably subtle sweetness. Impressive purity and length. Drink 2015 – 2024

Bright, very pale straw colour, near colourless on rim. The nose is very elegant, tightly bound and refined in expression with delicate aromas of white florals and honeysuckle. This is beautifully precise, unfolding minerally nuances with aeration. Medium-sweet to taste and light-bodied, the palate is elegant and slender in expression with finely focussed flavours of white florals, limes and honeysuckle. The wine is extremely harmonious and composed, enlivened by subtle, lacy acidity. The fruit, sweetness and acidity are balanced and the mouthfeel has poise and tension. The wine carries to a very long and sustained, fine-featured finish with honied notes. This is a beautifully elegant and finely poised medium-sweet Riesling with delicate and precise floral and honied flavours. Very dark, black-hued purple-red colour, near impenetrable and youthful in appearance. The nose is refined and very tightly bound, initially slender and penetrating in presentation with aromas of black cherries, liquorice, dark herbs and spices, along with savoury stalky nuances and lifted black florals. The fruit is beautifully fresh and exudes vitality and energy, revealing plenty of delicate detail with aeration. Medium-full bodied, the palate is tightly bound and elegantly proportioned, with bright, lively primary fruit flavours of black cherries, along with subtle thyme herb, savoury stalk and minerally flavours. Fresh, lacy acidity enhances the fruit lusciousness, and very fine-grained, supple tannins support the fruit, providing excellent linearity. This has a fine and concentrated core that carries to a very long, lingering finish with black fruit flavours. This is a beautifully elegant, tightly concentrated, black fruited Pinot Noir with subtle herb and mineral complexities and supple, refined structure. It will develop richness and greater interest over the next 6-8 years. Serve with lamb, beef, venison and semi-hard cheeses. A mix of Abel, 115 and clone 5 fruit from a single vineyard on the Queensberry Hills, fermented with foot-stomping in the fermenter to 13.7% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 14% new French oak.  18.5/20
